There are a couple of different methods available for rearranging your images within a gallery, including:
- Changing the image names
- Dragging and dropping the images
- Selecting a sort order from the Sort Photos droplist
We'll go over all three methods below.
Changing the Image Names
The images in your galleries are automatically ordered by their filenames by default. They are displayed in an alphanumeric sequence, such as Image_0001, Image_0002, Image_0003, etc. If you would like to move an image up or down the image list, you can simply change the filename so that it would naturally display above (or below) the rest.
Images sorted alphanumerically should have their numbers padded with zeros to ensure that the correct image sequence is achieved. For example, instead of Image_1, Image_50 and Image_198, the images should be named Image_0001, Image_0050, and Image_0198.
Note: This method of changing the image sequence only works if you haven't already used either of the other two sorting methods described below. Once one of the other sorting methods has been used, the images can no longer be sorted by name.
Drag and Drop
While viewing your gallery images, click to select one or more of them and then simply click and drag the selected images to their new location. The new image sequence is automatically saved each time the images are dropped to a new location.
Sort Photos
You can use the Sort Photos method if you need to rearrange all of the images at once. Here's how this works:
- Navigate to the list of images within any of the categories in your gallery.
- Click on the Select... option at the top of the page under the Sort Photos: label.
- Select from any of the following options:
- Image Name - Selecting this option will cause your images to revert back to the default alphanumeric sort order. Images sorted alphanumerically should have their numbers padded with zeros to ensure that the correct image sequence is achieved. For example, instead of Image_1, Image_50 and Image_198, the images should be named Image_0001, Image_0050, and Image_0198.
- Time Captured - This sorting method attempts to arrange your images chronologically based on a timestamp recorded within the image data itself. Due to the requirement that the images contain a timestamp within themselves, this method will only function correctly on images that were taken with a digital camera. This sorting method works well for sorting images in events where multiple cameras were used.
- Natural Sort - Natural sort is a variation of the Image Name method described above. The primary difference between Natural Sort and Image Name is that the natural sort method does not require that the image numbers are padded with zeros.
- Random Sort - Randomizes the sequence of the images.
- Repeat these steps as needed for each of the categories within your gallery.
